31 Days of Decluttering - Day #14 - Underwear Drawer

We're almost to the half-way point!  Are you feeling a little less decluttered?  I know I am!

Today's focus is the underwear drawer.  I just cleaned mine out a few months back, but I'm sure mine could use it again since I have such little space.  I'm also well aware of the fact I have three different sizes of bras and underwear in my closets (depending on what my weight is).  I need to get my undergarments organized by size too.

Here's the "before":

All these bras were hanging on the back of my bedroom door.  There's a blue tote full of underwear I don't wear and the brown basket (that's behind the bras) is full of the underwear I currently wear.  The floral/striped basket is full of bras/hosiery too.
These are the action steps according to "From Overwhelmed to Organized":
  • Throw out any undies with holes, as well as panties or bras that are worn out, stretched, or stained
  • Relocate underwear that belong in another family member's drawer {it happens!}
  • Relocate any other items that have crept into this drawer that aren't panties or bras
  • Give away or donate delicates that don't fit you well {Note:  some people aren't keen on the idea of donating undergarments but I think it's a personal choice - if you do donate bras or panties, make sure they're clean and in virtually new condition - would you want to buy these items second hand if they look old and used?}
  • Give away or donate underwear you haven't worn in the last six months {there's probably a reason you haven't worn it - and unless that reason has changed, chances are pretty good that you won't wear it any time soon}
  • Consider how often you do laundry and how many panties or bras you need and then give away or donate more if you have too many
  • Consider what types of underwear and bras you wear now {not what you used to wear or what you think you should wear} and give away or donate those you don't need
  • Think about how much space you have in your undies drawer and if you still have too many panties and bras for your space then purge some more.  You want to be able to easily find what you're looking for when you're getting ready in the morning!

Here's the "after":

I was AMAZED at how many pairs of unopened underwear I have (in the blue tote)!  There are two different sizes in there and I organized them accordingly.  I organized my brown basket into lights, darks, flirty, and unopened sections.  The pile in front of the brown basket are getting turned into rags.  The pile to the right of that are being donated to AmVets.  All the bras to the far right are 1 size too small right now.  I gathered them together and stored them for now.

The bras I currently wear are now organized and hanging nicely on the back of my door:

This exercise was a great wake-up call!  I had no idea how many bras/pairs of unopened underwear I had!  I definitely don't need to buy any more for at least the next year.  I'm putting myself back on a Victoria's Secret freeze at least until January 1 of next year!  And if I don't lose more weight and fit back into the smaller bras, they're going onto eBay next January as well.
