GOLDEN TOTE May 2015 Subscription Box Review

What it is:  A monthly clothing subscription box.

Cost:  $49 + shipping ($58.95 total) (for 2-3 pieces) or $149 (for 5-6 pieces total with free shipping)

Details:  Golden Totes go on sale the first Monday of each month at 9 am.  For the $49 tote, you pick 1 piece and Golden Tote picks the rest (which is what I signed up for).  For the $149 tote, you pick 2 pieces and Golden Tote picks the rest.

I've been wanting to try Golden Tote for a while now (ever since I discovered Stitch Fix actually).  This is the first time I've purchased a tote though.  Since I wasn't sure about sizing, I decided to go with the $49 tote for starters.

What I Ordered:  There were issues with the website launch of this month's tote, so it didn't re-launch until later in the month.  The first 3000 people who placed an order received a free jewelry gift as a token of their apology for the delay.  Since I didn't order until later in the afternoon on the day of the launch, I figured I was well past that mark though.  Much to my surprise, Golden Tote sent me a beautiful rose gold bracelet though.

Potter's Pot "Pop of Print" Tee Dress - (RV $35)

I chose this piece since it it was versatile and has some Spandex in it.  (I normally wear a size XL and Golden Tote only goes up to a size L.  I knew I was taking a chance on ordering from them, but decided to give it a go based on the clothing measurements listed).  This particular dress is made from 70% rayon, 26% polyester, and 4% Spandex.

Here's what it looked like on me.  It fit me a little snug, but with a cardigan over it and capri leggings, it was fine for work (and to go see Dave Matthews in later that evening).

Lime & Chili Striped Tunic Dress with Lace & Button Detail - (RV $50)

I was very pleasantly surprised to receive another dress in my tote!  It's lightweight and a cute style that can be worn alone or paired with leggings.  It's made from 95% polyester and 5% Spandex, so the fabric stretches, which is exactly what I was looking for.

The back is my favorite part of the dress though.  The lace and button detailing really look cute when this dress is on.  I'll have to get a pair of heather grey leggings before I can wear this dress to work due to the length, but once I have them, I think I'll wear this outfit a lot!

Jules Smith Rose Gold Pave Ball Cuff - (RV $65)

I am a huge fan of rose gold and don't own a cute rose gold bracelet, so I'm delighted with this piece!  The value is wonderful too!  (This bracelet is also available on the Jules Smith website in yellow gold and silver).  I'll definitely get a lot of wear out of this piece!

FINAL VERDICT:  I LOVED my first Golden Tote box!  My stylist picked great surprise pieces that I absolutely adore!  I was nervous about the fit of the pieces since I normally wear an XL and the largest size offered by Golden Tote is a L.  By choosing/receiving pieces with Spandex in them, things turned out fine though.  I paid $58.95 for this box (with shipping) and the total retail value was $150.  I'm happy with that!  The next Golden Tote goes on sale today and there's some REALLY cute pieces available!

Have you tried Golden Tote yet?  If so, what did you think?

XOXO,
Stephanie

  1. Great review! I am intrigued by Golden Tote but also worry about sizing, especially since I've never had luck with StitchFix understanding my body type...

  2. Stitch Fix was hit or miss for me once I gained a few lbs. Plus, it seemed like every box ended up costing me $200. For this one, the price point is lower and I specifically asked for stretchy fabric and picked out a dress w/stretchy fabric, so it worked out. :)
